Hypertension - What Are the Early Signs

Living with Hypertension

Blood Pressure is a measurement of force exerted on the walls of the arteries from the blood as it circulates and is a key element of heart health.
High blood pressure or “hypertension”: This is when too much force is being exerted on the arteries. If blood pressure is too high, it can narrow the arteries and lead to damage over time, increasing the risk of heart attack.

Two measurements of pressure: The first number is systolic and the second is diastolic. Diastolic measures the pressure between heartbeats when the heart relaxes.

Healthy Living: A healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercise or physical activity, and stress management form a comprehensive approach to healthfully managing your blood pressure fitness.

Are you at risk? One in three American adults has high blood pressure – 67 million people. Some of the factors are out of your control, such as age, sex, and race or ethnicity. This is just one reason why healthy living is so important.

What are the signs and symptoms? Many times there are no warning signs or symptoms, so it’s important to know what yours is normally.

What is a normal blood pressure?

  Blood Pressue Levels

Normal Systolic less than 120 mmHg, Diastolic less than 80 mmHg

At Risk Systolic 120-139 mmHg, Diastolic 80-89 mmHg

High Systolic 140 mmHg or higher, Diastolic 90 mmHg or higher
